Rockies announce spring training schedule

With warm weather in mind (and hopefully approaching) the Colorado Rockies have announced their 2009 Spring Training schedule. Important dates for the organization will include:

Pitchers, catchers and World Baseball Classic players report: Saturday, February 14th

First workout, pitchers and catchers: Sunday, February 15th (afternoon)

Position players report: Wednesday, February 18th

First Cactus League Game: Wednesday, February 25th (1:05 p.m.)

The Rockies Spring Training facility is Hi Corbett Field in Tucson Arizona. The development of players during the spring will play a key role in which players in the organization will call Asheville their home for the season. The Rockies open up their Cactus League schedule against the rival Arizona Diamondbacks on February 25.

"Spring Training is always a roll of the dice for us," Assistant General Manager Chris Smith said. "We really have no control over who the parent organization sends us. We have been fortunate recently, especially last season, for the caliber of talent and dedicated athletes the Rockies have sent here to McCormick Field."

The Tourists player will arrive from Arizona the week of April 5th. The team will host a meet-and-greet for season ticket and mini-plan holders at Fan Fest on April 7th. Tickets can be purchased by contacting the Tourists front office at 828-258-0428.
