Missions Add INF Brian Joynt, Activate INF Eric Sogard from Disabled List
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Missions announced today that INF Brian Joynt will join the team from Extended Spring Training and INF Eric Sogard will be activated from the Seven-Day Disabled List. In addition, INF Keoni Ruth has been reassigned to Single-A Lake Elsinore, and INF Kevin Howard has been traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Joynt was originally selected in the 29th round of the 2007 Draft. He batted .304 (86-for-283) with 28 doubles, 13 home runs and 67 RBI in 76 games for Lake Elsinore in 2008.
Sogard returns to the team after being placed on the Seven-Day Disabled List on May 2 with a slightly pulled groin. Sogard was batting .311 (23-for-74) with a home run and 19 runs scored before being sidelined with the injury. He has reached base in all 21 games he has played for the Missions in 2009, and enters tonight's game fourth in the Texas League with a .452 on-base percentage.
Ruth batted .309 (17-for-55) including six multi-hit games in 17 appearances with the Missions after being called up from Lake Elsinore on April 16.
Howard played just one game in a Missions uniform, going 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI May 13 against Midland. The terms of the trade have not yet been announced.
