Hall of Fame Room honors Offermann

New exhibit at Coca-Cola Field honors former Herd home
June 17, 2013

Bisons fans young and old, come to the new Bisons Hall of Fame Room in Coca-Cola Field, presented by ADPRO, this homestand to experience the history of Offermann Stadium.

It's a celebration of the stadium that was opened on May 9, 1889 and was home to the Bisons up until it closed after its final game on September 17, 1960.

To remember this historic stadium, the exhibit includes a seat from the stadium as well as early scorecards that were used during games. There is also a copy of the plaque that is dedicated to the stadium by the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame on August 11, 2012 that is placed on the grounds of where the stadium once stood.

Throughout the Bisons history many famous players have played in Offermann including Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famers Luke Easter, Ollie Carnegie and James "Deacon" White, who will also be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame this year. In the exhibit is first baseman Luke Easters retired number 25 jersey along with many other older Bisons jerseys from their time in Offermann. Also, in remembering Easter, there is an autographed home run ball that he hit in Offermann during the 1957 season.

To remember Bisons star left fielder Ollie Carnegie is his 1938 MVP Trophy. That season Carnegie, at age 39, batted .330 driving in 136 runs and hit 45 home runs that broke Billy Kelly's record of 44 home runs that he hit in 1926. On display there is also an autographed ball by Carnegie as well as a photo taken in Buffalo of him with National Baseball Hall of Famer Babe Ruth.

Don't forget, while the exhibits will change throughout the season, you will always be able to view all 85 plaques of the Buffalo Baseball Hall of Fame during each visit to the Bisons Hall of Fame Room.
