Royals Minor Leaguer suspended

NEW YORK -- The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Kansas City Royals Minor League outfielder Jarrod Dyson has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for an amphetamine, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Dyson will be effective at the start of the 2009 season.

Dyson, a product of Southwest Mississippi Junior College, played for the Class A Advanced Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Carolina League in 2008 where he batted .260 with no home runs and 24 RBIs in in 93 games. He ranked second in the Carolina League with 39 stolen bases.

Dyson, who spent the 2007 season with Class A Burlington in the Midwest League, was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 50th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft.
