Junior Grizzlies Jamboree Set For March 1st
Junior Grizzlies, a non-competitive baseball league for children with mental and physical disabilities, is the flagship program of the Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund, the non-profit arm of the Fresno Grizzlies. Since the league's creation in 2007 participation has swelled to over 120 players, with that number expected to grow.
"Few of our initiatives have been received with such wholehearted support from the Fresno community as the Junior Grizzlies," said Grizzlies Executive Vice President and General Manager Andrew Stuebner. "We've managed to build on the program in each year of its existence, and look forward to welcoming even more players and families for the 2009 season."
In 2007 the Grizzlies Community Fund built the 'Field of Dreams' for the Junior Grizzlies. This special baseball diamond is made out of a rubberized surface that is safe for all participants. The Grizzlies partnered with Clovis Unified School District and Granite Construction to build the one-of-a-kind field at Gateway High School, located at Herndon and Sunnyside in Clovis.
The field, which ultimately cost close to $500,000 to build, was made possible by support from Fansler Foundation, SCJohnson, and St. Agnes Medical Center. In addition to using the field for all Junior Grizzlies games and practices, the field is utilized by CUSD for special education classes and district events.
The Junior Grizzlies Spring Training Jamboree will begin on Sunday, March 1, at 10:00am. For more information on the program, please visit juniorgrizzlies.org, or call Director of Community Relations Danielle Witt in the Fresno Grizzlies front office at 559.320.2547.
