Erik Johnson Promoted to the Charlotte Knights
(Fort Mill, SC) - RHP Erik Johnson, the fourth-best prospect in the White Sox system, as rated by Baseball America, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from Double-A Birmingham and will make his Triple-A debut in today's 1:35 p.m. game against the Indianapolis Indians in Indianapolis, IN.
In 14 starts with the Barons this season, Johnson was 8-2 with a 2.23 ERA. Johnson takes the roster spot of LHP Daniel Moskos, who was released by the White Sox. Moskos was 2-1 with a 4.97 ERA in 21 games this season.
Johnson, 23, has been on an impressive roll over his last six games. The Mountain View, CA native has won six straight games and has thrown three complete games and a shutout over that six game span. In all, Johnson was 6-0 with a 1.83 ERA over his last six games. The 6'3 right-hander helped lead Birmingham to a Southern League North Division First Half title.
Originally a second round selection of the White Sox in the 2011 draft, Johnson was second in the Southern League this season in ERA, first in wins, first in complete games, tied for first in shutouts, third in strikeouts (74), second in innings pitched (84.2), first in WHIP (0.92), and first in winning percentage (.800).
Last season, Johnson split time between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem. He posted a 2-2 mark with a 2.30 ERA for the Intimidators and a 4-3 record with a 2.74 ERA in eight games for the Dash. Over parts of three professional seasons, Johnson is 14-7 with a 2.41 ERA (33 games, 31 starts).
Moskos, a native of Greenville, SC, threw 29 innings for the Knights this season and struck-out 28 batters. The Clemson University product returned to the Knights for the 2013 season after appearing in 16 games and compiling a 1-1 record with two saves and a 4.43 ERA for the Knights last season.
