Where Are They Now: Brian Bogusevic

February 26, 2009
TROY, N.Y.---Brian Bogusevic is one of the most intriguing players to ever don a ValleyCats uniform. The Houston Astros drafted Bogusevic in the first round of the 2005 draft from Tulane University. The left-hander was a prominent pitcher and hitter, but would become a pitcher full-time at the professional level.

Bogusevic began his professional baseball career with the Tri-City ValleyCats in the summer of 2005. The left-hander appeared in 13 games for the 'Cats, saving three while posting a 7.59 ERA. The Astros sent Bogusevic back to the ValleyCats in 2006 where he became a starter. After three games with the ValleyCats, Bogusevic was promoted to Lexington where he made 17 starts and posted a 4.73 ERA.

The Astros promoted Bogusevic to Single A Advanced Salem in 2007 and the pitcher made 21 starts for the Avalanche. Bogusevic also spent time at Double A, starting six games for the Corpus Christi Hooks.

In July 2008, the Astros decided to switch Bogusevic from a pitcher to hitter, a role he enjoyed as well at Tulane. Bogusevic responded exceptionally well, hitting .371 at Corpus Christi in 42 games and .338 in 22 games in the Arizona Fall League.

Bogusevic enters 2009 looking for a chance to make the Astros major league roster as an outfielder. Drafted five years ago as a pitcher, Bogusevic imagined his road to the major leagues would be much different than it has been, but in 2009, Bogusevic has never been closer to fulfilling his professional dream.
