Taylor Guerrieri Selected for 2013 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, announce that Hot Rods right-handed pitcher Taylor Guerrieri will represent the Tampa Bay Rays at the 2013 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on July 14 at Citi Field in New York City. Guerrieri is the first current Hot Rod to be selected for the U.S. Team roster in franchise history. The Rays will also be represented by 2011 Hot Rod Enny Romero, who will pitch on the World Team roster for the second consecutive year.
This marks the first time that current Hot Rods have made the Futures Game in back-to-back seasons. Guerrieri is the third current Hot Rod to receive a roster spot for the Futures Game. Kyeong Kang represented the Rays and his home country of South Korea at the 2009 Futures Game in St. Louis. Last season, Felipe Rivero played for his native Venezuela in the 2012 Futures Game in Kansas City.
Guerrieri, the 24th overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Spring Valley (SC) HS, is 5-2 with a 2.29 ERA in 12 starts this season for the Hot Rods. At the time of this press release, the righty is 0.2 innings shy of qualifying for fifth in the Midwest League in ERA. In his last start on Tuesday afternoon, Guerrieri, who was also named a 2013 Midwest League Midseason All-Star, hurled five shutout innings against Lake County at Bowling Green Ballpark, extending his scoreless innings streak to 16.2 frames.
In addition to Guerrieri, Beloit's Michael Ynoa (Oakland) has been selected to represent the Midwest League in this year's Futures Game. Ynoa is a native of the Dominican Republic and will play on the World Team. The 2013 Futures Game will be the 15th game in this series. The U.S. leads the all-time series 8-6 and has won three straight meetings.
