Twins Mike Pelfrey to rehab with Kernels on Monday

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Minnesota Twins have announced that RHP Mike Pelfrey will make a rehab start for the Kernels when they take on the Peoria Chiefs on Monday, July 1st at 6:35 pm.

Pelfrey was the New York Mets first round pick (9th overall) in the 2005 First Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University and made his MLB debut with the Mets on April 13, 2007 against the Washington Nationals. This is his seventh MLB season and eighth overall as a professional.

The Twins signed Pelfrey as a free agent in December, 2012. He has a career 50-54 record and 4.36 ERA in 153 MLB games (149 starts) and in 896.1 IP, he has allowed 989 hits and 463 runs (434 earned) with 318 walks and 506 strikeouts. He also has four compete game and one save.

Scheduled starter Mason Melotakis will come on out of the bullpen after Pelfrey.

The Kernels are in the midst of a seven-game home stand with three games against the Peoria Chiefs. The start of that series with the Chiefs is tonight at 6:35 pm with the gates opening at 5:30 pm. The current home stand continues through Monday, July 1st.
