Inland Empire Gets Offensive in Lake Elsinore
Lake Elsinore, CA - On their way to establishing new season highs in runs and hits in an inning and in a game, the Inland Empire 66ers (45-36, 8-3) blew out the Lake Elsinore Storm (32-48, 4-6) Sunday by a 17-0 final.
After seeing their five game win streak snapped Saturday by blowing a five run lead, the Inland Empire 66es left nothing to chance or doubt on Sunday. The 66ers established a new season high for runs in an inning with a six run 2nd, punctuated by Michael Snyder's 15th home run of the season.
That six run 2nd proved to be just an appetizer for the main course that followed in the 5th for the 66ers offense. Brian Hernandez led off with a single which gave every member of the starting lineup a hit on the day. Many of them had at least two when the inning ended because Hernandez started a run of eight consecutive 66ers hitters to record hits. When the dust settled Inland Empire had established new season highs with nine runs and nine hits in the inning.
Meanwhile on the mound Orangel Arenas starred again for the 66ers. He threw 5 1/3 shutout innings before leaving the contest to lefty Michael Johnson who completed the final 3 2/3 innings to earn his first save of the season. When it was all said and done the 66ers set new season highs with 18 runs on 20 hits. Inland Empire had six players score multiple runs in the game including Gary Mitchell who scored four times, and the 66ers had six different players drive in multiple runs with Eric Stamets and Alex Yarbrough each driving in four.
Inland Empire will bring their offensive fireworks to Rancho Cucamonga Monday to being the month of July after finishing June with a 17-1 record. The 66ers next home game will be the 4th of July featuring a showdown between the 66ers and division leading Lancaster, and a post game fireworks extravaganza.
