Smokies announce series of roster moves Tuesday

The Chicago Cubs announced several transactions that impact their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies. On July 1, INF Anthony Giansanti was promoted to the Class AAA Iowa Cubs and earlier today, INF Ronald Torreyes was traded to the Houston Astros for two international signing bonus slots. There are no corresponding moves announced at this time.

The Smokies roster is set at 23 active players.

Giansanti, 24, was batting .250 (25-for-100) with seven doubles, a triple and six RBIs in 25 games for the Smokies this season. The right-handed utility man split time with the High-A Daytona Cubs this season. The New London, Conn. native signed with the Cubs as a Minor League free agent in 2010.

Torreyes, 20, was batting .260 (58-for-223) with 13 doubles, four triples, a pair of home runs and 25 RBIs since joining the Smokies on April 12. The Libertado de Barinas, Venezuela native originally signed with the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 and was traded to the Cubs, along with pitcher Travis Wood and outfielder Dave Sappelt, for pitcher Sean Marshall in 2011.
