RoughRiders to honor Veteran on July 4 as part of "McAfee Military Moment"

July 3, 2013

FRISCO, TEXAS (JULY 3, 2013) -   On July 4, the Frisco RoughRiders and McAfee will be honoring former Military Police Officer William Colvard during Frisco's game against the Arkansas Travelers. The presentation will take place in the middle of the third inning and is part of the club's "McAfee Military Moment" celebration. During the holiday weekend, the RoughRiders will honor current and former service members who have made great sacrifices to their country.

William joined the Army as a military police officer in April 2007 and was deployed less than a month after graduating from the Military Police School in Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was deployed to Camp Taji, Iraq, with the 36th ID Texas Army National Guard attached to 18th Airborne Division. While there, he ran convoy security and routine patrols between several camps. In March of 2008, his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb which caused the Humvee he was in to roll over. He suffered burns, a separated shoulder and hearing loss.

William spent a year and a half at San Antonio Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston going through physical therapy to recover. He has since made a full recovery and was able to finish the remaining three years in his military contract.

Married with two children, William is grateful to be home to watch his kids grow up. A part of the Wounded Warrior Project, as well as a volunteer for The Fight Continues, he is very proud to have served his country.

McAfee has been working as an enthusiastic supporter of the USO over the past several years. Under the leadership of Executive Vice President Barry McPherson, the McAfee Support Team in many locations prepared personal cards, signed banners, and gift boxes to thank our troops for their sacrifice and service.
