DH Manny Ramirez Assigned to Round Rock

Rangers Agreed to Terms With Ramirez on Minor League Contract

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that they have signed designated hitter Manny Ramirez to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Round Rock.

Ramirez will report to Round Rock on Thursday, July 4 and will participate in team workouts for a few days before being activated by the Express. The 41-year-old began the season with Taiwan's EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, going 64-for-182 (.352) with eight home runs, 13 doubles and 43 RBI. Ramirez was removed from the Rhinos active roster on June 19.

The 12-time All-Star last played in the majors in 2011 with the Tampa Bay Rays, going 1-for-17 in five games before announcing his retirement that April. He spent part of the 2012 season with the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A, Oakland A's), batting .302 (19-63) with 14 RBI in 17 games.

Ramirez ranks among all-time leaders in home runs (14th, 555) and RBI (18th, 1831). He has played 2302 career games with Cleveland (1993-2000), Boston (2001-08), Los Angeles-NL (2008-10), Chicago-AL (2010), and Tampa Bay (2011).
