June 11, 2009
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, broke out the bats Thursday, drubbing the Durham Bulls 13-5.

The Herd set season highs Thursday in runs, hits, margin of victory, most runs in an inning and walks taken. Buffalo put two men on in each the first and second inning without scoring before opening the flood gates in the third. The Bisons opened with a single by Jesus Feliciano. Michel Abreu followed with a walk ahead of a Wily Mo Pena RBI double to right. Both players scored.

The Bisons added another run in the third when Jonathon Malo scored on a Cory Sullivan double. It was one of four hits for Sully on the day. He finished with three singles, a double, a run and two RBI.

The runs really flowed in the fifth when Buffalo sent 11 players to the plate. When it was all said and done, six runs scored on four hits, three walks and an error. RBI in the frame belonged to Rene Rivera (scoring Pena after a double), Luis Rivera, Sullivan, Feliciano and Pena. The Herd led 10-4 after five.

The final three Buffalo runs came in the seventh and eighth. Luis Rivera led off with a single up the middle. He advanced on a Sullivan single and a Henry Mateo error. A groundout by Abreu scored the run.

In the eighth, Chip Ambres reached base for the first time as a Bison on a Ray Olmedo error. That was followed by a Rene Rivera walk and then a fielder' choice and another error to allow Mike Lamb to reach. The missed double play allowed a run in. Lamb later scored on a Luis Rivera single. That made the score its final 13-5.

Chris Nowak had a good offensive day for Durham. He was a homerun shy of the cycle and finished with four RBI.

Tim McNab got the win in relief for the Bisons. The righty went a perfect two-thirds of an inning in relief of starter Larry Broadway. The Bisons pen allowed just one run in four and two-thirds innings of work.

The Buffalo Bisons exploded for 13 runs Thursday, setting season highs in runs, hits, walks, margin of victory and runs in an inning. Cory Sullivan led the charge with a four hit day.
