Season High Crowd Out for 4th of July
San Bernardino, CA - A season high crowd of 7,822 fans crammed into San Manuel Stadium to celebrate the 4th of July by watching fireworks and the preceding game full of offense and excitement. The one thing the night did not have was a win for the Inland Empire 66ers (47-38, 10-5) who fell 10-5 to the Lancaster JetHawks (51-34, 12-3).
Lancaster jumped on Inland Empire as soon as the national anthem ended. Telvin Nash punctuated a four run first with a three run homer onto a very crowded home run hill. The JetHawks stretched their lead to six before the 66ers got themselves off the mat.
After trading runs from the bottom of the 6th to the top of the 7th, Inland Empire finally mustered an offensive rally. Down by six when the inning began, Zach Wright closed the gap to three with a two run single, and brought the tying run to the plate. But that also brought the JetHawks closer, Travis Ballew, into the contest and he got a double play ball to end the threat. Lancaster put three runs of their own on the board in the 9th and that ended the 66ers shot at a win.
Andy Workman did reach base safely for the 15th consecutive game, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Abel Baker also extended his hit streak to seven games with a 6th inning RBI single.
The 66ers will continue the Independence Day weekend celebration with a second fireworks show July 5th, sponsored by All West Auto Trans & Auto Repair. For information on 66ers tickets or to schedule your next fun filled group outing, contact the 66ers front office at (909)888-9922.
