Wisler Named TL Pitcher of the Week
San Antonio - The San Antonio Missions are proud to announce that right-hander Matt Wisler was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week for July 1-7.
Wisler was a winner in his only start of the week on July 3 at Tulsa, limiting the Drillers to just two hits and one walk, while striking out six over six shutout innings.
His dominant performance followed a terrific month of June, where the 20-year-old hurler was 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA in five starts and had a K:BB ratio of 28:7. Since June 4, Wisler is fifth in the TL in strikeouts with 34, WHIP at 1.06, OPP AVG at .220, sixth in ERA at 2.38 and tied for eighth in innings pitched with 34.0.
Wisler began the 2013 season at High-A Lake Elsinore, where he went 2-1 with a 2.03 ERA in six starts. In his 10 starts at the Double-A level, Wisler is 4-3 with a 3.44 ERA, striking out 50 batters against 15 walks in 55 innings pitched.
San Diego selected Wisler in the 7 th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Bryan High School in Bryan, OH. He entered the season as the Padres ' sixth-ranked prospect according the Baseball America .
Wisler ' s next start will be on Wednesday, July 10 as San Antonio welcomes in the Midland RockHounds (Oakland AA) for the first of four at Wolff Stadium. First pitch is set for 7:05 PM.
