Hens beat Bats 4-3 with tenth-inning walk-off!
The Mud Hens defeated the Bats 4-3 in walk-off, extra-inning fashion at Fifth Third Field Monday night!
Former Hen Mike Hessman got all of a pitch in the second inning for his 20th homer of the year and an early 1-0 lead for Louisville.
The Mud Hens rallied to tie in the third inning when Bryan Holaday singled in a run, and they later took the lead in the third after Avisail Garcia scored on some small ball from Nick Castellanos to give Toledo the 2-1 advantage.
The lead was short-lived for the Hens after Hessman once again got all of a Jose Alvarez pitch for his second solo homer of the game to tie it at 2-2. The Bats then took the lead in the fifth when Jason Donald scored on a sac fly from Kristopher Negron to make it 3-2.
Alvarez was excellent in his first start back from Detroit after allowing three runs on seven hits through eight. He also struck out four.
The Hens tied it in the ninth when Kevin Russo flew out with the bases loaded, scoring Brad Davis from third to send the game to extras. Danny Worth was the hero in the tenth when his RBI single off Nick Christiani made the difference in a 4-3 win for Toledo.
The Mud Hens will look to go up 2-0 in the series tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. with LHP Pat Misch on the hill.
