Quakes Drop 8-4 Decision to 66ers

July 8, 2013

San Bernardino, CA - The Quakes saw their brief two-game road winning streak stopped on Monday night, as the Inland Empire 66ers held on for an 8-4 win at San Manuel Stadium.

66ers' starter Mark Sappington (8-4) kept the Quakes limited on offense, allowing just two runs over eight innings to help Inland Empire improve to 7-1 against Rancho at home this year and 13-4 overall.

Quakes' starter Carlos Frias (1-3) was knocked around throughout his 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on 12 hits.

Rancho's offense did their only damage against Sappington in the fifth, as Scott Schebler and Darnell Sweeney had back-to-back run-scoring hits with two outs, making it a 4-2 game.

But after cutting the deficit to two, the Quakes gave up three in the bottom of the inning and then another in the seventh, as Gary Mitchell hit his second solo homer of the game, as Inland Empire took a commanding 8-2 lead.

Chris Jacobs and Pedro Guerrero homered in the ninth inning off of 66ers' reliever Eduard Santos, rounding out the scoring at 8-4. For both Jacobs and Guerrero, it's their second home run of the year, respectively.

The Quakes (5-14, 36-53) will send Gustavo Gomez (1-5) to the mound in Tuesday's rubber game, while Inland Empire will match up with Brandon Efferson (1-2), with game time scheduled for 7:05pm from San Manuel Stadium.

After this current six-game road trip, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Wednesday, July 10th for Summer Camp Day, with a special 11:35am start time. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field. Go Quakes!
