Moore Becomes First Hot Rods Major League All-Star
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, Class A Affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, announce that Rays LHP Matt Moore has been named by 2013 American League All-Star Manager Jim Leyland to the A.L. team's active roster for next Tuesday's 84th All-Star Game. The 2009 Hot Rod replaces Texas RHP Yu Darvish and becomes the first Hot Rods alum to be named to a Major League All-Star team.
Moore won his fifth straight start on Thursday, allowing three runs on three hits in 7.1 innings against the Twins at Tropicana Field. The 24-year-old lefty is now tied with Tigers RHP Max Scherzer for the Major League lead in wins with 13. Moore, who is 13-3 with a 3.44 ERA in 19 starts this season, will join Rays teammate Ben Zobrist at Citi Field in New York City on Tuesday, July 16. Pregame ceremonies begin at 6:30 PM CDT on FOX.
In 2011, Moore became the first Hot Rods alum to reach the Major League ranks when he appeared in relief for the Rays at Camden Yards in Baltimore. After the Rays qualified for the playoffs on the last day of the 2011 regular season, Moore earned the win on the road against the Rangers in game one of the 2011 American League Divisional Series.
The fifth season of Hot Rods baseball continues with a six-game homestand from July 17 to July 22, featuring IGA All-You-Can-Eat Wednesday, Thrifty Thursday, Coca-Cola Soft-Sided Cooler giveaway on Friday, H&R Agri-Power Ag Night Fireworks on a Faith and Family Night Saturday, and an appearance by Batman a 1960's-era Batmobile on Sunday.
