Craig Gentry to rehab with RoughRiders

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (JULY 13, 2013) - Texas Rangers outfielder Craig Gentry will begin a rehab assignment with the RoughRiders when the team returns to Dr Pepper Ballpark to begin a four-game home stand against the San Antonio Missions on Sunday, July 14. A former Frisco player, Gentry has been on the 15-day disabled list with a non-displaced fracture of his left hand since June 21.

Gentry is expected to begin his assignment on Sunday and may be with the RoughRiders for multiple games depending on how his rehab progresses. The 29-year-old Gentry has played in 51 games this season for Texas and has hit .216 with four doubles, two triples, one home run, nine RBI, 16 runs scored and eight stolen bases. He is coming off his best major league season in 2012, when he established career-highs in batting average (.304), extra-base hits (16), runs scored (31) and games played (121).

The former Arkansas Razorback spent parts of two seasons playing for the RoughRiders when he was a minor leaguer. He played in 76 games with Frisco in 2008 and spent nearly the entire season with the squad in 2009, the year he made his big league debut. In 203 career games with the RoughRiders, Gentry hit .293 with 38 doubles, seven triples, 12 home runs, 86 RBI, 143 runs scored and 65 stolen bases.
