Snappers' Covey Outdueled by TinCaps' Ross
BELOIT, WI - Joe Ross shutout the Beloit Snappers for six innings in leading the Fort Wayne TinCaps to a 1-0 victory on Sunday afternoon with 1,239 on hand at Pohlman Field in Midwest League action.
The Snappers see their four game win streak end and they fall to 59-34 (16-7 in the second half). The TinCaps are now 51-41 (8-15 in the second half).
Both pitchings staffs were on their game all day. Dylan Covey (0-1) made his Beloit debut and didn't disappoint. The 2013 fourth round pick permitted only three hits through five innings and walked two while striking out two. He also got Fort Wayne to ground into two double plays. The one negative against Covey came in the fifth when Luis Domoromo (2-3, RBI) doubled to left and Corey Adamson came in to score.
As good as Covey was, Ross (4-4) was even better. The right-hander was only tagged for three hits and two walks in six frames while striking out five. In three of his six innings, Ross retired the side in order.
When the TinCaps' bullpen entered the fray in the seventh, they kept the Snappers offense in check. Trevor Gott was handed the seventh and eighth and allowed just one hit over two scoreless frames. The ninth inning was the responsibility of Chris Nunn and he set down three in a row to garner his sixth save.
