Tapia steals show in Rockies win
Jonathan Gray allowed just one run on one hit in his second start of the season, but Raimel Tapia stole the show in the Grand Junction Rockies 4-1 rain/lightning shortened win over the Great Falls Voyagers.
For the second straight outing, Gray didn't walk anyone and he struck out three, tossing 46 pitches in two and two thirds innings, 34 pitches were strikes.
Gray retired the side in order in the first on just 10 pitches, and in the bottom of the first the Rockies scored a run to take a 1-0 lead. Raimel Tapia scored after a double extended his hitting streak to 16 games, but in the second, Great Falls got to Gray.
They took advantage of a hit by pitch and balk to get a runner to second base with two out in the second. Tyler Williams tied the game with a single, but the Rockies regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Tapia singled home Jairo Rosario to make it 2-1.
Tapia struck again in the fourth when he tripled home two to make it a 4-1 game. The Rockies outfielder finished 3-for-3 with 3 RBI. In the two games Gray has started, Tapia is 8-for-8 with 8 RBI.
Devin Burke earned the win, throwing two scoreless innings. He is the first Rockies pitcher to four wins this season.
After an off day Tuesday, the Rockies will hit the road and begin a seven game road trip starting with the first game of a three game series in Billings. First pitch from Dehler Park will be at 7:05 with Zach Jemiola starting against Ben Lively.
