FDNY Rescue 4 Fire Truck to be on Display at Dell Diamond July 18

Mobile Memorial To Firefighters Lost on 9/11 Makes Stop in Round Rock
July 17, 2013

The Round Rock Express has partnered with the Round Rock Fire Department to host the FDNY Rescue 4 mobile memorial at Dell Diamond on Thursday, July 18 as part of Firefighter Appreciation Night when the Express takes on the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A Chicago Cubs) at 7:05 p.m.

FDNY Rescue 4 responded to the attacks on 9/11 with eight firefighters onboard. The truck's captain, Brian Hickey, responded to Ground Zero as a substitute lead officer with FDNY Rescue 3. Those eight firefighters' lost their lives when the South Tower collapsed. The Rescue 4 truck was salvageable and remained in service for nearly two more years covering all five boroughs as the only remaining rescue truck covering the City of New York.

The Rescue 4 fire truck serves as a mobile memorial to the firefighters who died in the tragic terrorist attacks in New York City on September 11, 2001. The truck is driven across the country through the Remembrance Rescue Project, serving as an educational memorial.

The Remembrance Rescue Project is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit created by firefighters to restore, preserve and share Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 from 9/11 as educational tools, historical artifacts and memorials. The Project involving former FDNY Rescue 4 and Rescue 5 is an educational effort focused at society, especially youngsters who were too young to actually understand the events of September 11th and what that day means to members of the fire service and the country as a whole.
