Walkoff Win for Braves
Rome defeated Lakewood 3-2 in a walk off win in front of a crowd of 1,887 at State Mutual Stadium. Joey Meneses had the game winning hit to get the win in the bottom of the ninth.
Rome scored the first run of the game in the third inning. Kyle Wren bunted a base hit single, and Jose Peraza singled to move Wren to second. Both runners double steal safely and Wren later scored on an Eric Garcia ground out giving the Braves the 1-0 advantage.
The BlueClaws tied the game in the sixth. Chase Numata walked to lead the inning off and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Mauricio Cabrera. Brian Pointer hit a sacrifice fly to advance Numata to third base. Larry Greene Jr. then singled home Numata to tie the game.
Lakewood pulled ahead in the eighth inning. Carlos Tocci reached second on a throwing error by Peraza. Numata laid a bunt down to move Tocci over to third and he later crossed home on a wild pitch by Braves pitcher Matt Chaffee giving the BlueClaws a 2-1 lead.
Rome tied the game in the eighth when Daniel Carroll bunted a single down the first base line. Carroll was then moved to third on a wild pitch by Lino Martinez and Gracia cracked a single to tie the game at two.
The Braves started off the bottom of the ninth with a walk to Carlos Franco. Tyler Tewell then reached on a force out getting Franco at second. Tewell was able to advance to second on a throwing error by Angelo Mora. With Felix Marte pinch running at second, Meneses then blooped a single into center to score the winning run giving Rome the 3-2 win.
Braves pitcher Shae Simmons (1-1) picked up his first win of the season, and Lakewood's Lino Martinez (0-2), got his second loss of the season.
