June 20, 2009
Chattanooga, TN - Mississippi's bid for a second straight win fell just short as the M-Braves lost to the Chattanooga Lookouts, 5-4, in 11 innings Saturday night.

Chattanooga went up 1-0 on two singles in the first. Justin Sellers singled and scored on a triple by Josh Bell to put the Lookouts on top.

The M-Braves answered the next half-inning. Concepcion Rodriguez and Kody Kirkland drew back-to-back walks and Kala Ka'aihue drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Braves' hurler Jeff Lyman then ripped a double to right that scored both Rodriguez and Kirkland to put the Braves on top.

Rodriguez started the fourth with a single and stole second to move into scoring position. Kirkland then tripled home Rodriguez to give the Braves a 3-1 lead. Ka'aihue singled home Kirkland to put the Braves up 4-1.

The Braves 4-1 lead stood until the home-half of the sixth. Sellers singled to left and Josh Bell doubled to bring Andrew Lambo to the plate with two men in scoring position. Lambo blasted the first pitch he saw over the right field wall to instantly tie the game at four.

In the bottom of the 11th, Lambo led off with a walk and he moved to third on a single by Giles. After an intentional walk to Victor Mercedes, John Becker ripped a single down the left field line that scored lambo with the game-winning run. Lyman gave up a run on only two hits through five innings, but didn't factor into the decision. Kevin Gunderson gave up three runs in two-thirds of an inning. Cory Gearrin tossed 1.1 scoreless frames and Bryan Dumesnil threw three shutout innings. Brett Butts took his second loss of the year after giving up the game-winning run in the 11th.

James Adkins gave up four runs on seven hits through 5.2 innings, but he didn't factor into the decision either. Victor Garate threw a scoreless third of an inning. JD Durbin threw 4.2 scoreless innings and Matt Sartor got his first win after retiring the only batter he faced.

The Braves and Lookouts wrap up this five-game set Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field at 1:15 ct. Edgar Osuna (2-1, 5.00) will take on Kendy Batista (2-0, 2.40) in the finale.
