INF Mike Olt Traded to Chicago Cubs

Third Baseman Included in Package Deal For RHP Matt Garza

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced today that Round Rock Express infielder Mike Olt has been involved in a trade with the Chicago Cubs to acquire RHP Matt Garza. The package deal also sent right-handed pitchers C.J. Edwards and Justin Grimm to the Cubs.

Olt has spent most of the 2013 season with the Express, batting .213 (49-230) with 11 home runs, 15 doubles and 32 RBI in 65 games. He hit a three-run home run in his final two games with the Express and was 9-for-31 (.290) over his last 10 games. He spent several weeks on the disabled list in May with vision problems. He went 4-for-12 in three games at Double-A Frisco before returning to Round Rock following his DL stint. The University of Connecticut standout was drafted by the Rangers in the supplemental first round of the 2010 1st Year Player Draft. He made his major league debut in September 2012.

RHP C.J. Edwards spent all of the 2013 season with Class-A Hickory, going 8-2 with a 1.83 ERA (93.1ip/19er) in 18 starts.

RHP Justin Grimm made one start with the Express (5.2ip, 4h, 1r, 1er, 2bb, 4k) before being recalled to Texas where he has spent the rest of the season.

With this move, the Express roster sits at 24 active players with one major league rehab.
