July 23, 2013

NILES, OH - Tuesday night's scheduled 7:05 p.m. game between the State College Spikes and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Eastwood Field has been postponed due to wet field conditions after heavy rains in the Mahoning Valley area in the late afternoon. The two teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games starting Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.

Pitching matchups for the games have not yet been determined. State College was originally slated to have left-hander Jimmy Reed (1-1) on the mound on Tuesday as the first man in a "piggyback" setup, to be followed by right-hander Nick Petree (1-1). Mahoning Valley was scheduled to send left-hander Kenny Mathews (0-1) to the hill. Wednesday's initial matchup was to have been Spikes right-hander Andrew Pierce (0-1) against Scrappers left-hander Luis Lugo (1-3).

The three-game series between the two teams will now begin on Wednesday, with the second game of the doubleheader beginning approximately 30 minutes after the completion of game one. State College and Mahoning Valley will complete the three-game series with a 7:05 p.m. game at Eastwood Field on Thursday night.

After the road trip, the Spikes return home to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for a two-game set against the Auburn Doubledays (Washington Nationals) on Friday and Saturday. Fans will be sure to love the appearance of Mountain Man from A&E's hit TV show Duck Dynasty, presented by ServiceMaster by Holobinko and Merry Maids on Friday night for the 7:05 p.m. game against Auburn.

Plus, the Spikes will wear special 1980's Cardinals-style jerseys for Saturday's 7:05 p.m. game, which will be up for bids in a Jersey-off-the-Back Auction to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. The auction and the spectacular post-game FIREWORKS show are presented by PSECU and ESPN Radio 1450.
