Timber Rattlers Thump LumberKings in Series Opener

Gainey limits Clinton to 1 hit in 9-1 loss
July 24, 2013

Appleton, WI - Very little went right for the LumberKings in their series opening 9-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Clinton fell behind early as the T-'Rats used back-to-back doubles and a triple in the third inning to score three runs. From there, the rout was on. Wisconsin pounded Clinton pitching and scored in four of the next five innings.

Down early, the offense never kicked it into gear. They managed just three hits and didn't get on the board until Jordy Lara doubled home Gaby Guerrero in the eighth.

Earlier in the day, Clinton received the Mariners' 2013 first-round pick, third baseman D.J. Peterson. In his debut, Peterson was 0-for-4 with a strikeout. Peterson was drafted 12th overall out of the University of New Mexico where he was a two-time first-team All American.

Preston Gainey stifled the Clinton lineup for seven innings. The right-hander, who came in with a 7.01 ERA, threw seven shut out innings and allowed just one hit.

The series continues Thursday when the LumberKings send left-hander Scott DeCecco (7-7, 4.46) to the mound against Wisconsin right-hander Eric Semmelhack (1-5, 5.23). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CT.
