Barons announce All-Star Game entertainment

HOOVER, Ala. -- On Monday, the Birmingham Barons announced the entertainment acts that will be featured when State Farm Presents the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game at Regions Park on Monday, July 13.

The ZOOperstars!, BirdZerk! and Jake the Diamond Dog will be present to see the best players in the South Division take on the best of the North Division.

"We love the fact that our fans are going to be able to enjoy both the best players in Minor League Baseball and the best entertainments acts in the entire country when they come to see the All-Star Game on July 13," Barons general manager Jonathan Nelson said.

* The ZOOperstars! perform at more than 200 shows a year. More than 30 million fans have enjoyed the ZOOperstars! unique performances throughout the world. The group has been highlighted on many national media outlets, including ESPN, ESPN2, CNN Headline News, Fox SportsNet and the NBC Today Show. Shark McGwire even appeared in a national Nike ad.

* BirdZerk! is an entertainment whirlybird with more tricks up his feathers than Houdini. Spontaneous, outrageous, cool and capricious, he plays to the crowd with comedic routines honed through hundreds of appearances at ballparks and arenas around the world. BirdZerk! has performed in the United States, Canada, Japan and Mexico for millions of professional baseball, basketball and hockey fans.

In baseball alone, BirdZerk! has performed for more than 150 different teams and appeared at the Triple-A All-Star games in 1991, 1994, 1998,2000, 2002, and 2007. They have also been featured on ESPN's "Plays of the Week" and CNN's "Play of the Day."

* Jake the Diamond Dog has been barnstorming across America to ballparks where his full-game performance includes: delivering the game ball to the pitcher, shagging foul balls, taking water and towels to the umps, playing batboy, catching Frisbees and honoring the Sweetheart of the Game.

In addition, the first 1,000 kids to enter Regions Park will receive a free Kids T-Shirt Jersey. There will also be a spectacular fireworks show following the ballgame.

Tickets to the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game, as well as to the 2009 Southern League Home Run Derby and Celebrity Softball Game, are available at barons.com online, or by calling the Regions Park Box Office. The Barons won the North Division first-half title and will open the playoffs on Thursday, Sept. 10 at Regions Park. Game 2 will be played Friday, Sept. 11 at Regions Park.
