Lookouts take series finale, 8-5 Saturday
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 27, 2013) - The Chattanooga Lookouts (14-20) used a five-run fifth inning and won the series finale over the Generals (15-17) Saturday, 8-5. The win was the second straight for Chattanooga, but Jackson takes the series by winning three of five.
Chattanooga jumped on the board first Friday by grabbing a run in the bottom of the first against Jackson starter Trevor Miller. Joc Pederson scored the as Jeremy Moore grounded into a double play. Pederson opened the inning with a leadoff double.
The Lookouts pushed two more runs across to extend their lead to 3-0 in the second as Sean Burroughs scored from third on a double steal. Pederson singled home Matt Walach later on the frame.
The Generals stormed back to tie the game scoring one run in the third on an RBI ground out from Michael Dowd (1x3, 2B). Jackson plated two runs in the fourth on an RBI ground out from Ji-Man Choi (0x4, RBI) and an RBI single from Dan Paolini (1x3, RBI, R). The Paolini RBI was his first in Double-A 70th overall this season. Jackson tied the game at 3-3.
Chattanooga put the game away by sending 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning and scoring five runs. The big inning was aided by three walks and three hits. Jackson trailed 8-3 after five innings.
The Generals did push across two runs in the top of the ninth on a single by Denny Almonte (2x4, 3B, R) that scored Julio Morban (1x3, 2B, 2 R) and Paolini.
The win on the mound was picked up by Lookouts reliever Garrett Gould. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked two in 4.2 innings of relief. Trevor Miller (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound in his second Double-A start. He allowed six runs (five earned) on four hits in four innings on the mound. Kyle Hunter surrendered two runs in an inning of relief. Stephen Kohlscheen tossed two scoreless innings, striking out three and Dominic Leone struck out one in a scoreless inning of relief as well.
The Generals return home Sunday to being a five-game series against the Huntsville Stars. First pitch Sunday is at 6:05 p.m. (CT). LHP Jimmy GIllheeney (4-4, 3.53) starts for the Generals against RHP Drew Gagnon (3-5, 5.67) for Huntsville.
