Karexon Sanchez named South Atlantic League All-Star Game MVP
(Eastlake, OH) - Lake County Captains second baseman Karexon Sanchez was named the South Atlantic League All-Star Game Most Valuable Player on Tuesday night in Charleston, West Virginia. He was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs, two walks and a stolen base.
The 50th annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game was a back-and-forth baseball battle. The Northern Division came from behind to defeat the Southern Division 8-7. The Northern Division has won the past four midsummer classics.
In the bottom of the 7th, Sanchez stole third base and then scored the game-tying run on Ben Lasater's groundout.
In the bottom of the 8th, Sanchez hit a two-out RBI double into the left-field corner to plate the go-ahead run.
The Captains return home on Thursday, June 25th to begin the second half of the season with a nine-game homestand. Thursday is Thirsty Thursday. Thirsty Thursday will feature half-price fountain soda and draft beer until 9 PM, in addition to "Pub Food" appetizer specials. The Captains will also feature a live one-hour performance by Hillbillies in Denial prior to the game. Thursday will also feature The News-Herald High School HR Derby Championship Round. The 2009 Home Run Derby champion will be crowned at the end of the contest.
The Captains remind fans that tickets for The Bob Dylan Show, featuring John Mellencamp and Willie Nelson, which will take place on July 11, are on sale now. Tickets for the General Admission concert are only $67.75 and kids age 14 and under get in free with a paid adult.
