BayBears Blanked by Blue Wahoos

Five Pensacola Pitchers Combine for Two Hit Shutout
July 28, 2013

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Blue Wahoos took the first meeting of the second half in the Bay-to- Bay series on Sunday afternoon at Pensacola Bayfront Stadium, shutting out the Mobile BayBears 2-0.

Mobile managed just two hits against five Pensacola pitchers, and fell for the third consecutive day, and for the 10th time in the last 13 ballgames.

BayBears starter Andrew Chafin worked a 1-2-3 first, but was touched for two runs on two hits and a walk in the second, as Pensacola scored both of the game's runs early. After a leadoff walk to Mike Costanzo, Chris Berset drilled a double to left-center to put the Wahoos ahead 1-0. Berset scored two batters later on a Ryan LaMarre single, putting Pensacola ahead for good at 2-0.

Shaun Ellis worked 4+ scoreless, allowing the only two BayBears hits in the top of the third inning - a double to Ryan Court on a misplayed fly ball to right, and a bunt single to Ender Inciarte.

Parker Frazier earned the victory with three hitless innings of relief, and Trevor Bell earned his 8th save in as many opportunities by working a 1-2-3 top of the 9th.

Chafin worked six innings for the 14th time in 15 starts with Mobile, but falls to 7-6 on the season despite another strong showing.

Game two of the series in Pensacola will get underway on Monday night at 7:00, with David Holmberg (5-5, 2.92) on the mound for the BayBears opposite Daniel Renken (4-7, 3.56) for the Wahoos.
