Derrin Ebert Acting as Interim Pitching Coach
The Cincinnati Reds have announced that Arizona League Reds Pitching Coach Derrin Ebert has been named the interim pitching coach for the Blue Wahoos. Pensacola pitching coach Tom Brown is away from the team while dealing with a family mater.
Ebert, 36, is in his second season as a professional coach. He also spent the 2012 campaign at Goodyear. Selected by Atlanta in the 18th round of the 1994 free-agent draft, he made all 5 of his Major League appearances for the Braves in 1999 at the age of 22. Ebert also pitched in the Royals, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Brewers and Red Sox minor league systems. He retired as a player following the 2005 season. Ebert also appeared in the 2011 hit movie Moneyball as Mike Magnante.
Brown is expected to rejoin the team prior to Tuesday's game against Mobile.
