Beavers release Bozied, Cassel

April 6, 2006
PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Beavers announced Wednesday night that first baseman Tagg Bozied and right-handed pitcher Jack Cassel have been released by the San Diego Padres, the team's major league affiliate.

A third-round selection of the Padres in the 2001 draft, Bozied, 26, spent three seasons in Portland (2003-05), batting .285 with 32 home runs and 127 RBIs in 190 games with the Beavers. Bozied, a Pacific Coast League All-Star in 2003, was limited to just 14 games with Portland in 2005 due to lingering effects from a season-ending knee injury the previous year.

Cassel, 25, was 3-2 with a 4.62 ERA (20er, 39.0ip) in 23 games (3 starts) for the Beavers in 2005. The right-hander was a 25th-round selection of the Padres in the 2000 draft.
