Matt Harrison, Colby Lewis to rehab with Frisco

Harrison starts on Wednesday & Sunday, Lewis on Saturday
July 30, 2013

MIDLAND, TEXAS (JULY 30, 2013) - A pair of Texas Rangers pitchers will make rehab starts for the Frisco RoughRiders in the coming days, as Matt Harrison and Colby Lewis get closer to returning to the big leagues. Harrison will start in Midland on Wednesday and then will make another start on Sunday at Dr Pepper Ballpark against San Antonio. Lewis is expected to start on Saturday in Frisco against the Missions.

Tickets for the upcoming home stand may be purchased at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, at www.RidersBaseball.com or by calling (972) 731-9200. The games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday begin at 7:05 p.m. with Sunday's home stand finale starting at 6:05 p.m.

Harrison was the Rangers' Opening Day starting pitcher, but made only two starts and went 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA before being placed on the disabled list on April 10 for a lower back strain. The 27-year-old ended up having two surgeries to repair a herniated disc, the last operation occurring in May. Wednesday's game at Citibank Ballpark starts at 6:30 p.m. and it will be Harrison's first time pitching in a game since April 6.

An All-Star for the first time last season, Harrison made 32 starts for the Rangers in 2012 and went 18-11 with a 3.29 ERA and pitched 213.1 innings. Before making his Major League debut in 2008, he started nine games for the RoughRiders and went 3-2 with a 3.33 ERA. He also rehabbed with Frisco in 2009 and 2010, allowing four runs in 12 innings over five games (three starts). Harrison came to Texas in a 2007 blockbuster trade with the Braves along with Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Beau Jones and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. The Rangers gave up Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay in the deal.

On Saturday, Lewis will make his fourth start on this rehab assignment and his seventh start overall this season. He made three previous starts on two other separate rehab assignments in May. Lewis is recovering from surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow and has battled triceps tendonitis and muscular soreness in his elbow this season. His last start on Sunday in San Antonio was his best of 2013, as he threw five innings and yielded three runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

The RoughRiders are currently on a seven-game road trip and return home on Thursday, August 1. For tickets to any RoughRiders game, fans can go to www.RidersBaseball.com or call the RoughRiders at (972) 731-9200. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Dr Pepper Ballpark box office, which is open 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Monday - Friday and 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday.
