Salem Pitcher Ryne Miller Named Allstar Game MVP
The righty has shown great poise with the during the first half anchoring the Sox bullpen in late innings. Miller has a 3.00 ERA and is second on the team with 51 strikeouts in 45.0 innings of relief.
New Faces Join Sox for Second Half Push
The Salem Red Sox have added several new players after the All-Star break. Catcher Tim Federowicz, outfielder David Mailman and infielder Anthony Rizzo have been promoted from Single-A Greenville. The Sox also activated shortstop Yamaico Navarro from the Disabled List. Jon Hee, Jered Stanley and Ty Weeden have been sent to Single-A Greenville and right fielder Daniel Nava has been placed on the Disabled List.
Former 7th round pick David Mailman batted .297 with 3 HR and 7 triples to begin the season with the Drive. Catcher Tim Federowicz led Greenville with a .345 batting average and 10 HR. First baseman Anthony Rizzo was second on the team with 9 HR and led the team with 42 RBI.
Yamaico Navarro's addition to the Salem Red Sox roster will provide stability to the middle infield that it has been missing since the first game of the season. Navarro suffered a wrist injury in the first game of the season against the Frederick Keys and has missed the season until this point. Navarro hit two doubles in his Salem debut on Opening Day 2009.
