Farm Forum: "Farming and High-Speed Rail: Can We Have Both?"
FRESNO, Calif. - California High-Speed Rail Authority's (HSRA) Central Valley Director Diana Gomez and Kings County District 3 Supervisor Doug Verboon will be the guest speakers for the Farm Forum on Friday, August 2nd in The CRU Club at Chukchansi Park. The topic of the Farm Forum will be "Farming and High-Speed Rail: Can We Have Both?" will be discussed by Gomez, Verboon, and those in attendance. The Farm Forum starts at 5 pm.
Gomez is the Central Valley Regional Director for the California High-Speed Rail Authority and has close to 25 years of experience in California transportation garnering wide experience in technical, managerial and communication areas. Most recently she was the Deputy Director of Operations for Caltrans District 7, which covers Los Angeles and Ventura Counties in Southern California. During her tenure at Caltrans, the California State University, Fresno graduate was also Chief of the Office of System Management Operations, Headquarters Division of Traffic Operations and a Senior Traffic Engineer with the Division of Traffic Operations for Caltrans District 6, headquartered in Fresno.
Verboon is a lifelong resident of Hanford and third generation farmer of Gold Top Ranch. In 2005, he began a career in commercial property management when he purchased the Cinnamon Square Shopping Center in Lemoore, California. Verboon is also a member of the Kings County Farm Bureau, District Advisory Council for Sequoia Walnut and Future Leaders Board for Diamond Walnuts, as well as an active trustee of Pioneer School District for 16 years.
The Farm Forum is a "meet the speaker" engagement, which invites those who work in the agriculture industry as well as those interested in Ag to discuss a specific topic. Former City of Fresno mayor Alan Autry hosts the Farm Forums. All Farm Forums are held in The CRU Club at Chukchansi Park at each Friday home game. Farm Forums are part of the Fresno Grizzlies and Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund's efforts to engage the Central San Joaquin Valley's strong agricultural heritage with fans at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies Community Fund's Farm Grown program steers these efforts as it focuses on building meaningful partnerships in support of education and healthy living.
