Nageotte pitches Tacoma to win

April 7, 2006
Clint Nageotte pitched five no-hit innings and Shin-Soo Choo belted a two-run homer to lead the Rainiers past the Sky Sox, 3-1, on Thursday.

Nageotte struck out four and walked two before leaving because of pitch count. He threw 67 pitches, 40 for strikes.

Scott Atchison came on for the sixth and gave up the Sky Sox's first hit, a single by Jayson Nix. Atchison was charged with the lone Colorado Springs run after surrendering a double to Ryan Spilborghs leading off the seventh. Carlos Rivera singled off reliever Sean Green to cut the lead to 3-1. Emiliano Fruto pitched a perfect ninth for the save.

Tacoma pitchers limited Colorado Springs batters to five hits, only one of which went for extra bases. The Rainiers also totaled seven strikeouts. Nix went 2-for-3, the only Sky Sox player with more than one hit.

Choo's home run came with two outs in the fifth. He ripped a Miguel Ascensio pitch over the wall in right field for a 2-0 lead. T.J. Bohn followed with a double and later scored on a single by Mike Morse before Ascensio got Todd Sears on a groundout to end the inning.

Ascensio permitted six hits and three walks in five innings to take the loss. Relievers Zach McClellan and Ramon Ramirez combined to pitch three innings of one-hit relief. McClellan struck out three in two innings. --Tim Leonard/MLB.com
