Fifth Third Burger Debuts, Feasting Begins

April 10, 2009
COMSTOCK PARK - The West Michigan Whitecaps debuted the world famous Fifth Third Burger last night during the team's season opener, a 5-2 victory in front of 7,598 fans. Fans were lined up on the third base concourse anxiously awaiting their chance to get their hands on the burger.

The Whitecaps sold 107 Fifth Third Burgers on Opening Day. Thirty-two people attempted to take down the 4-pound "dietary disaster" and 17 people finished it, earning the coveted Fifth Third Burger t-shirt.

The first person to conquer the burger was 16-year-old Steve Landis of Grand Rapids, Mich. Landis, a sophomore in high school, said he ate at a Chinese buffet earlier in the day.

Fifth Third Burgers will be available all season at Sweet Meats Smokehouse on the third base concourse.

The Whitecaps' season continues tonight at home against South Bend at 6:35 p.m. Season, group, and individual tickets are on sale and can be purchased by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
