First-round pick Jeffress suspended again

Brewers prospect gets 100-game ban after third violation
June 29, 2009
The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced today that Milwaukee Brewers Minor League pitcher Jeremy Jeffress has received a 100-game suspension after a third violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for a drug of abuse.

The suspension of Jeffress is effective immediately.

Jeffress, Milwaukee's first-round pick in the 2006 Draft, is currently a member of Class A Advanced Brevard County of the Florida State League. He was previously suspended 50 games in 2007 for "a drug of abuse" and later admitted to marijuana use.

Jeffress faces a lifetime ban from baseball if he tests positive again for a "drug of abuse" under MLB's drug policy. He is the 25th Minor Leaguer to be suspended this season.
