PawSox Pitching plus Power equals WIN

April 11, 2009
Catcher Carlos Maldonado ripped a towering fly ball over the centerfield fence about 410 feet from home plate in the eighth inning on Saturday afternoon, snapping a scoreless tie and leading the PawSox to a 1-0 win. It was the second straight shutout win for Pawtucket.

PawSox pitchers have now thrown 21 consecutive shutout innings. Pitching was sensational on both sides. Lefty Kris Johnson tossed 5 scoreless innings in his Triple A debut for the PawSox. Marcus McBeth and Fernando Cabrera each fired a pair of scoreless frames. Cabrera notched the save against his former team.

Veteran Nelson Figueroa stymied the Pawtucket offense for 7 innings. Reliever Connor Robertson surrendered the homer to Maldonado, the first hitter he faced.

The PawSox are 3-0 to start the season. They'll go for the sweep on Easter Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Clay Buchholz makes his first start of the year. He will square off with former Pawtucket lefthander Casey Fossum
