Potomac hands Lynchburg first loss

April 11, 2009
The Hillcats got blanked for the first time this year in their first loss of the season, a 2-0 loss to the Nationals. Lynchburg starter Ronald Uviedo (pictured) took the loss despite only allowing one earned run in six innings of work.

The Nationals started the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run by Francisco Plasencia off of Hillcats starter right hander Ronald Uviedo. They doubled their advantage in the fourth with a double steal attempt that resulted in an out and a run to make it 2-0 Potomac.

The Nats left handed starter Tom Milone stymied the Cats through five and 1/3 scoreless innings of work in his Advanced-A debut. Uviedo also pitched well in his first start since 2005, allowing just one earned run in six innings of action.

The bullpen for Potomac tossed three and 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the shutout. It was the first time Lynchburg has been blanked this season and the win for the P-Nats snapped a seven-game losing streak to Lynchburg.

The win went to Milone (1-0) for the Nationals (1-2) and Andrew Kown earned his first save of the season. Ronald Uviedo (0-1) took a tough luck loss for the Hillcats (2-1).

The final game of the four-game series is on Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at City Stadium. Lefty Chi-Hung Cheng gets the nod for the Cats opposite righty Jeff Mandel for the Nats. Tune-in for all the live action beginning at 1:40 p.m. with the Hillcats On-Deck Show on FM 105.5 WKDE.
