Thrashers slam Blue Jays

Derek Griffith pitched six strong innings and Brian Burgamy hit a grand slam to power visiting Clearwater past Dunedin, 7-2, on Sunday.

Griffith (1-0) scattered five hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter in his first start of the year.

Burgamy's lone hit of the game capped a six-run, seventh-inning outburst and staked the Thrashers (3-1) to a 7-0 lead.

Matt Thayer had two hits and two RBIs for Clearwater, which rebounded from Saturday's 3-1 loss.

Ryan Klosterman helped the Blue Jays (1-3) avoid the shutout, doubling home a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Dunedin starter Brian Wolfe (0-1) surrendered five runs and eight hits over six innings.

Clearwater begins a three-game series in Sarasota at 7 p.m. ET on Monday. Dunedin hosts Lakeland, also at 7:00 p.m. ET. --Chip Haunss/MLB.com
