Baek, Oldham combine on one-hitter

Rainiers roll to 9-0 victory over Sky Sox in twinbill opener
April 9, 2006
Cha Seung Baek and Thomas Oldham combined on a one-hitter on Sunday as the Tacoma Rainiers rolled to a 9-0 blanking of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the first game of a doubleheader.

Baek (1-0) went five innings and yielded just a double to Tony Miller in the fourth. The 25-year-old right-hander from Korea walked two and struck out five. Last year, Baek also gave up one hit in his first start of the season, a six-inning stint against the Fresno Grizzlies.

Oldham finished off the shutout -- and Tacoma's third straight victory -- by retiring six of the final seven batters.

The unbeaten Rainiers (3-0) slugged five home runs, including two by Greg Dobbs. The first baseman was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and clubbed a solo shot in the fourth and a two-run blast in the sixth.

T.J. Bohn, Mike Morse and Hunter Brown also homered for Tacoma, which got a two-run double from Scott Youngbauer.

Sky Sox starter Zach Parker (0-1) was charged with five runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in three innings.

Miller and Ryan Spilborghs each stole a base for winless Colorado Springs (0-3), which managed five hits in dropping the nightcap, 6-0.
