Garcia Optioned to Charlotte, Heisler Assigned to Kannapolis

August 12, 2013

(Fort Mill, SC) - The Chicago White Sox completed their trade with the Texas Rangers officially on Sunday, acquiring infielder Leury Garcia from the Rangers as the player to be named later for Alex Rios and cash considerations. The White Sox have optioned Garcia to Charlotte, where he is expected to join the Knights on Tuesday for their four-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders from PNC Field in Moosic, PA.

Garcia, 22, was originally signed by the Rangers as an amateur free agent in 2007. The Dominican native worked his way through the Texas system and made the jump to the Majors this season with the Rangers. On April 6, 2013, Garcia made his Major League debut. Since then, he has appeared in 25 games with the Rangers and has a .192 batting average (10-for-52) with eight runs scored, one triple, one RBI, and one stolen base. In parts of six seasons at the Minor League level, Garcia is a .261 hitter with 30 triples, 13 home runs, 143 RBIs, and 155 stolen bases. Prior to this season, Garcia was named by Baseball America as the No. 20 Prospect, Fastest Baserunner and Best Infield Arm in the Rangers organization.

In one other roster move on Monday, the Knights have assigned outfielder Adam Heisler back to Single-A Kannapolis. Heisler was promoted to the Knights on Friday and has hit safely in all three games with Charlotte. In all, Heisler posted a .400 batting average (4-for-10) with two runs scored and two RBIs. He was hitting .313 (25-for-80) with 16 runs scored, five doubles, one triple, one home run, and nine RBIs with Kannapolis over 22 games.

Currently, the Knights active roster is at 24 players, with Garcia set to make it 25 active on Tuesday.

Charlotte will return home to Knights Stadium on Saturday, August 17 for a 7:15 p.m. game against the Norfolk Tides. There are just nine home games left in Knights Stadium history. Tickets for any of the final nine games at Knights Stadium are on-sale now and can be purchased in person at Knights Stadium, by phone at 704-357-8071 ext. 2106, or online at http://www.charlotteknights.com.
