Slowey on DL, Swarzak promoted

Wings' All-Star returns to big leagues

The Minnesota Twins announced after Friday night's game that they have placed righthanded pitcher Kevin Slowey on the 15-day disabled list with strained right wrist. In 16 starts this season, Slowey is 10-3 with a 4.86 ERA.

To replace Slowey on the 25-man roster, the Twins will recall right-handed pitcher Anthony Swarzak from Triple-A Rochester prior to Saturday's game vs. Detroit. Swarzak, who made his Major League debut with 7.0 scoreless innings vs. Milwaukee May 23, had posted a 2-2 record with a 3.90 ERA in five starts with the Twins before being optioned on June 13. The 23-year old was recently named to the International League All-Star Team after posting a 4-4 record with a 2.34 ERA in 10 starts at Rochester. Swarzak was scheduled to start the first game of Sunday's doubleheader for Rochester; he has a 4-4 record with a 2.34 ERA for the Wings this season.

Twins Post-Game Notes from Friday's 14-inning loss to Detroit: The Twins are now 3-4 in extra inning games this season including 1-2 at the Dome...this was the longest game for the Twins (by innings) since they also played 16.0 innings on Aug. 15, 2005 at Chi. (AL)...tied for the 13th-longest in club history...of the 19 occasions in which the Twins have played 16.0-or-more innings, they have lost 13 times including five of the last six.

Kevin Slowey lasted just 3.0 innings for the second consecutive start...he has an ERA of 16.50 (6.0 ip, 11 er) in those two starts.

Delmon Young has homered twice in his last six games and has collected six extra-base hits in his last seven games...this was his fourth 3-hit game of the season.

Brian Duensing made his second career Major League appearance and first since April 10 at Chicago (AL)...he tossed a career-high of 3.2 innings of relief.

Denard Span set a new career-high with five hits in the game...he has a career batting average of .408 (29-for-71) vs. the Tigers.

Joe Crede has hit safely in eight of his last nine games...he has collected 17 rbi and hit six home runs in his last 16 home games....he has three homers and nine rbi in his last four games vs. the Tigers...he now has 25 career home runs vs. Detroit, his most vs. any opponent.

Justin Morneau's 10 intentional walks this season is tied for third in the majors behind Albert Pujols and Adrian Gonzalez.

The Twins bullpen threw 13.0 innings tonight...R.A. Dickey allowed four of the five runs by the Twins 'pen.

The Twins were 4-for-18 with runners in scoring position and left 12 runners on base tonight.
