Heisler's first career slam clips 'Claws
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 13, 2013) -- Fresh off a three-game stint in Triple-A, outfielder Adam Heisler blasted his first career grand slam to propel the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 12-8 win over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Tuesday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Heisler, who appeared in three games with the Charlotte Knights from Aug. 9-11, finished 2-for-4 with a career-high-tying four RBI and a run scored. He broke the game open with a second inning slam, the first by an Intimidator this season, for a 7-1 lead. Cleuluis Rondon drew a walk, Jacob May singled and Tim Anderson was hit by a pitch to set the table for Heisler's slam.
May added a run in the fourth on an inside the park home run (6) to right-center field, the first such home run of his career, for an 8-1 lead. He finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a career-high four runs scored.
Kyle Hansen earned the win for the Intimidators, allowing three runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings. Hansen (5-7) struck out four but walked three and gave up a solo home run to Lakewood's Angelo Mora in a two-run fifth inning.
The BlueClaws cut the Kannapolis lead to 10-7, thanks to three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh off reliever Stew Brase -- who hurt his own cause with an error.
Storm Throne worked the final two innings for Kannapolis, recording his first save of the season.
Mike Marjama added insurance runs with a two-run single with two outs in the eighth inning. He finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored.
Kannapolis loaded the bases with no outs in the first inning, and May scored when Marjama grounded into a double play for a 1-0 lead. Jason Coats followed with a base hit to cash Anderson for his team-leading 66th RBI of the season. Brent Tanner then doubled to right-center field, scoring Coats from first for a 3-0 lead. Anderson finished 1-for-3 with three runs scored.
The BlueClaws got on the board in the top of the second on a Brian Pointer base hit to score Larry Greene Jr.
