Crawdads fall to Legends

April 23, 2009
HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads dropped the third game of a four-game series against the Lexington Legends, 3-0, before 1,622 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Thursday. RHP Carlos Pimentel (0-1, 3.78) delivered a quality start with just two runs allowed on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts through six innings of work, but came away with the loss.

Lexington 1B Phil Disher powered the Legends (9-6) to an early 2-0 lead with his second home run of the series in the first inning, accounting for the only runs that Pimentel surrendered on the night. The Legends later added a run in the bottom of the eighth against RHP Tyler Tufts (1-0, 0.96) to take the 3-0 lead, the eventual final score.

Despite the strong pitching performances of Pimentel, Tufts and RHP Mark Hamburger (0-0, 3.60), who pitched a scoreless ninth inning, Lexington's pitching stifled the Crawdads (7-8) offense that entered the night's action leading the league in runs scored, dealing Hickory their first shutout loss of the season. 1B Clark Murphy and 2B Jason Ogata picked up doubles for the Crawdads, while 3B Matt West added a single for Hickory's three hits in the game.

Legends starter LHP Brad Dydalewicz (2-0, 0.00) extended his streak of innings without an earned run to 17 frames to start the season after navigating through seven scoreless innings and earning the win against Hickory. LHP Patrick Urckfitz (0-0, 4.70) pitched a scoreless eighth and RHP Daniel Meszaros (0-0, 0.00) earned his sixth save on the season with a scoreless ninth, nailing down the 3-0 win for Lexington.
