Ramirez and Johnson both single in Chiefs 4-2 loss
Peoria took an early lead in their half of the first inning. Johnson led off the inning with a single and advanced to second after one out on a single by Ramirez. With two down, Rebel Ridling singled to score Johnson for his 53rd RBI of the season and give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.
Beloit answered back in the third to take away the Chiefs lead against starter Marcus Hatley. Alexander Soto led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by Drew Thompson. Dominic De La Osa grounded out to plate Soto and James Beresford singled to score Thompson. With two down, Ramon Santana singled to advance Beresford to third. Michael Harrington singled back to Hatley to score Beresford and Santana was thrown out at home after a throwing error by Hatley to first to end the inning with the Snappers on top 3-1.
The Chiefs added a run in their half of the sixth when Nelson Perez hit his eighth home run of the season off the maintenance building in the Pepsi Picnic Plaza. The Snappers came back with another run in the ninth against Chris Huseby. With one out, Ozzie Lewis walked and Angel Morales came in to pinch run and stole second after a second out was recorded. Soto doubled to score Morales to make it a 4-2 ball game.
Peoria threatened in the ninth when Perez reached first on a fielding error by Thompson. With one out, Brenly singled but Perez was easily thrown out trying to make it to third. After a wild pitch to pinch-hitter Mario Mercedes, Brenly took second before Mercedes struck out to end the game.
Ramirez was 1-for-2 with a walk on the game. He left the game after flying out in the fifth. Reed Johnson went 1-for-4 while also scoring a run in the first to give the Chiefs their only lead of the game.
Hatley lasted just three innings after getting hit on the left-hand on Harrington's single. He gave up five hits and three runs, all earned, while also walking one. Kevin Kreier came on in relief and walked one while striking out two and not giving up a hit. Manolin De Leon threw two spotless innings while striking out one. Huseby came on in the ninth and gave up one run on one hit while walking and striking out one.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Michael Brenly (C) - Brenly was 3-for-4 including his tenth double of the season. It was his fourteenth multi-hit game and sixth 3-hit game.
Notes... Junior Lake ended his 21 straight starts with a strikeout streak...The last time he went a game without striking out was June 6 as a starter...Peoria is now 4-2 against the Snappers at O'Brien Field and 7-3 overall...Perez's home run was his second homer dating back to May 18...He also has a four game hit streak...The Chiefs had not lost three straight games at O'Brien Field all season until Sunday...
