Phil Gosselin Purchased by Atlanta

Gosselin set to make Major League debut with the Braves
August 16, 2013

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves have announced the purchase of infielder Phil Gosselin from Triple-A Gwinnett, effective on Friday, August 16. Gosselin will join the Braves' 25-man roster as a replacement for infielder Tyler Pastornicky, who was placed on the disabled list by the Braves today. Pastornicky, called up from Gwinnett on August 13, has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

The 25-year old Gosselin is set to make his Major League debut with Atlanta after splitting the season between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett. The right-handed hitting utility player was solid in his first Triple-A campaign, hitting .277 (46-for-166) with three doubles, one triple, two home runs and 11 RBIs. Before being promoted to Gwinnett on June 23, Gosselin played in 59 games for Mississippi, hitting .243 (53-for-218) with 10 doubles, one triple, one homer and 23 RBIs.

The West Chester, PA native had his season-long eight-game hitting streak snapped on Thursday night, his last action for Gwinnett. During the streak, he hit .419 (13-for-31) with one double, three runs scored and two RBIs.

Gosselin was originally drafted in the fifth round of the 2010 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Virginia by the Atlanta Braves. In 412 minor league games spanning four seasons, he batted .258 (395-for-1,532) with 70 doubles, 15 triples, 14 home runs, 167 RBIs and 31 stolen bases.

The Gwinnett Braves and the Durham Bulls finish their four-game series on Friday night at 7:05 PM. Right-hander Cody Martin (2-4, 3.97) will start for the G-Braves, matching up against right-hander Matt Buschmann (6-1, 2.95) of the Bulls. The radio broadcast will air on WDUN 550 AM and 102.9 FM with Tony Schiavone calling the play-by-play. The telecast will air on CSS with Mike Morgan and Dave Lezotte.

The first 2,000 fans entering Coolray Field on Friday will receive a G-Braves Baseball Cap, courtesy of Coolray Heating and Cooling. To purchase tickets, call the Coolray Field Box Office at (678) 277-0340 or visit gwinnettbraves.com.
